Presentation/performance
and audio or video logs of works-in-progress are two common
ways for dance students to demonstrate their achievement of
the TEKS. Though educators have traditionally thought of assessment
as a means of grading, assessment is also an important learning
tool.
- Assessment
provides teachers with information about student achievement,
aiding teachers in planning by indicating what needs to
be retaught, which students need remediation, and which
students are ready to advance.
- Assessment
develops a body of evidence documenting student growth over
time.
- Through
effective assessment, students learn to self-assess.
- Looking
at the combined assessment of many students or classes,
teachers gain information to evaluate the effectiveness
of teaching practices.
